Vaccination is the New Light

New South Wales (NSW) is currently experiencing an outbreak of the COVID-19 Delta variant, with case numbers rising since June 2021.
Residents of Greater Sydney are in lockdown, and eight local government areas (LGAs) have been identified as areas of concern requiring additional restrictions on movement. Three of these LGAs are located within the Western Sydney Local Health District (Blacktown, Cumberland, and Parramatta).
Young people from across western Sydney have used the Youth Voices COVID-19 Video Competition to grab the attention of their friends, schools and communities and tackle the pandemic.
Prize winners from western Sydney, along with winners from around the state, were announced on Monday 18 October in an online ceremony attended by over 110 people.
An online information session for western Sydney high school students to delve into questions about COVID-19 and vaccinations has been attended by close to 60 young people.
Hosted by the Prevention Education and Research Unit (PERU) at Western Sydney Local Health District in collaboration with the COVID-19 Western Sydney GP Network, the session was an opportunity for young people to voice both their questions and concerns.
Program materials for SALSA online can be accessed anytime, anywhere on Google Sites. SALSA online is a collaborative learning experience which is accessible via Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams.

Painted handball and volleyball courts, water refill stations and sporting grounds with artificial turf are all ideas from high school students in western Sydney.
The video titled ‘Simple Changes’ was co-designed by 3 western Sydney schools for the SALSA program. The video was launched at the Australian Lifestyle Medicine conference.
